The Hunger Games by Suznne Collins

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Published by Scholastic Press, 2008
374 Pages (Hardcover)

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

So, I'm probably one of the last people to read and review this book. I read it over the summer but am finally getting a chance to review it before the movie! But what can I really say about this book? It was AMAZING! I guess the best way to review this book is to say what I didn't like about it? Which is only one thing, the end with all the tributes come back as werewolf things. Yeah, that was a little weird for me and it didn't really fit in the book, for me at least. But other than that, WOW! What an amazing book. This is one of those books that might just be a classic because it was so eloquently written with a beautiful plot and characters. I'm so shocked that this book isn't more recognized, not by bloggers and avid readers but by the public in general. However, I really enjoyed books like Twilight before other non-readers decided it was the best thing in the world and made it their own. Not that that's a bad thing but it's nice to have something to just ourselves and not have it be ruined by wild crazy fans who only read the book because the movie came out. Anyway, sorry for the small rant. Hmmm, I really don't know what else to say. Every thing's been said about this book and I really have nothing new to add. So this was probably one of my shortest reviews ever but every things been said about this book, now I just have to find time to read the next two and get super excited about the movie!!! Oh my God, who's excited!!!

  1. I read this book pretty late on too. I think around November 2011 time frame. I was turned off by all the book hype surrounding it. My experience with book hype is like 85% of the books hyped up don't live up to their expectations (*cough*Twilight*cough*). But, in the case of The Hunger Games, it was a well deserved hype. The book was amazing!

I'm with your on the werewolf thing that happened at the end. It just came out of nowhere, and it seemed out of place to me too. And to make matters worse, I didn't really have a clear image of what they were really supposed to look like. I'm interested to see how they turn out in the movie though!
